The literacy council (d.b.a. READ Program) offers many educational services at no charge.  Our services range from basic literacy for adults to peer-tutoring for children; English as a second Language (ESL) to Learning Differences screening.

Please look around our web site.  Email or call us with comments or questions about the site or our program.

By looking at this web site (even if you get here by accident) maybe something will spark your interest.  While we are located in Arkansas, there is probably a literacy program in your area.  Look them up!  No matter what capacity you choose to work in, literacy is a very rewarding  and worthy cause.

Notes from the 2010 Haunted House

There are not enough words to express our gratitude to the sponsors and every worker at the 12th Annual READ Haunted House 2010.  We had more "victims", aka customers, than ever.  The incredible sponsors supported our fundraiser   financially or with goods ranging from door prizes to haunted house props.

It was a bit more difficult having been broken into late winter/spring 2010.  With lots of clean-up work and tenacious, dedicated volunteers, we made it very well.  Masks and costumes were stolen, along with a lot of vandalism in the    buildings that had to be dealt with.  More specific areas were created so the monsters in a "scene" would not be "seen".  Vic, our makeup artist, worked harder to ugly-up (or beautify, depending how you look at it) more monsters.

Our volunteer team of monsters worked themselves to "death" putting on a   horrific show.  With 8,000 sq. feet of haunted house, there was a lot of "scaring to fund literacy" each of the six nights we were open.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone.  We could not do this year after year without you!  We look forward to the increased and enjoyable teamwork and good times we will all share setting up HH 2011!
